Le triple filtre

 

In ancient Greece, Socrates was reputed to hold knowledge in high esteem. One day an acquaintance met the great philosopher and said, "Do you know what I just heard about your friend?" Dans la Grèce ancienne Socrates passait pour tenir la connaissance en haute estime. Un jour une de ses relations rencontre le grand philosophe et dit : " Savez-vous ce que j'ai entendu sur votre ami ?   "Hold on a minute," Socrates replied. "Before you talk to me about my friend, it might be good idea to take a moment and filter what you're going to say. That's why I call it the triple filter test. The first filter is Truth. Have you made absolutely sure that what you are about to tell me is true?" Attends une minute, lui répondit Socrates . Avant de me parler de mon ami ce serait une bonne idée de prendre un moment pour filtrer ce que tu vas  me dire . C'est ce que j'appelle le test des 3 filtres.Le premier filtre est la vérité . Es-tu absolument sûr que ce que tu vas me dire est vrai ?  "Well, no," the man said, "actually I just heard about it and..." Et bien non dit l'homme j'en ai juste entendu parler  "All right," said Socrates. "So you don't really know if it's true or not. Now, let's try the second filter, the filter of Goodness. Is what you are about to tell me about my friend something good?" Bien dit Socrates donc tu ne sais pas si c'est vrai ou pas . Maintenons essayons  le second filtre,  le test de la Bonté . Est-ce que ce que tu vas me dire sur mon ami est charitable ?  "No, on the contrary..." Non . Bien au contraire  "So," Socrates continued, "you're not certain it's true. You may still pass the test though, because there's one filter left -- the filter of Usefulness. Is what you want to tell me about my friend going to be useful to me?" Alors continue Socrates Tu n'es pas certain que ce soit vrai . Tu peux encore passer le test qui reste , celui de l'Utilité . Est ce que ce que tu vas me dire sur mon ami m'est utile ? "No, not really." Non , pas vraiment  "Well," concluded Socrates, "if what you want to tell me is neither true, nor good, nor even useful, why tell it to me at all?  Et bien , dit Socrates , si ce que tu veux me dire n'est ni vrai, ni aimable , ni utile , pourquoi même m'en parlerais-tu ?
